***A note on crank length for those BMXers who have been absent since the 80s. When freestyle emerged from bmx racing in the 80s, we all used 175mm and 180mm cranks because that was what was being produced for racing and were the only thing available. Those long cranks were not ideal for freestyle but we didnt really know any better. Many of us sought out 165mm Takagi and Sugino one piece cranks though because the shorter length rode better. Quicker acceleration to ride out of tricks was one advantage. Fast forward to the modern age and frames now have shorter rear ends. So shorter cranks have another advantage. Less chance of clipping your heels on your rear pegs. Furthermore, shorter cranks are also lighter and stronger than their longer counterparts. When you ride 160mm and 165mm cranks they do NOT feel abnormally short. They feel "right". Only when you ride super short cranks like 145-150mm do they start feeling small. So the bottom line is, do not be afraid to put 160-165mm cranks on your bike. That is what belongs there.
